Home Body Fat Test

Your ResultsYou have 22.9% body fat.

You have 41.2 Pounds of fat and 138.8 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

So apparently my body fat index is in the acceptable range.  That is good to know.  Unless of course I calculated this wrong.  Any one know how this works?

Range of Percent Body Fat in Different People
(Percent body fat found through the method of underwater immersion testing)

Men Women
Fattest Covert has tested 55% 68%
Average American 22% 32%
Healthy normal*:
African-American 12% 19%
Asian 18% 25%
Caucasian 15% 22%
Top Athletes 3-12% 10-18%
Leanest Covert has tested 1% 6%

*The bones of African-Americans tend to be dense and so they sink easily in water. On the other hand, the bones of Asians are light and porous so they tend to float. To allow for these differences, healthy African-Americans should have a lower percent body fat than Asians and Caucasians, while Asians should have a higher percent body fat than African-Americans and Caucasians.

Remember to allow at least one month in between the times that you test. Spreading the tests across a period of time helps ensure that significant changes in your percent body fat are due to exercise and diet, rather than human error in body measurement.

The Dalai Lama is a Feminist

The Dalai Lama is a Feminist

During his closing remarks at the International Freedom Award ceremony in the Peabody Grand Ballroom today, His Holiness the Dalai Lama called upon women to help create a more compassionate world.“I call myself a feminist,” said the Dalai Lama. “Isn’t that what you call someone who fights for women’s rights?”

The audience erupted in laughter and applause. The Dalai Lama went to on say that women are more prone to compassion, since they have the responsibility of bearing children.

The Dalai Lama was chosen for the prestigious award due to his commitment to protecting and defending the rights of the oppressed Tibetan people. In 1940 at age two, he was chosen as the spiritual leader of over six million Tibetans. The Dalai Lama fled his country in 1959, several years after the People’s Republic of China took over Tibet. Now he lives in exile in Dharamsala, India where he set up schools and settlements for the more than 150,000 refugees who followed him into exile.

Throughout his speech, the Dalai Lama emphasized the importance of compassion, responsibility, and interfaith harmony.

“Whether you believe this religion or that religion, we are all the same human beings,” said the Dalai Lama. “We all come from the same mother. That creates the basis for compassion.”

The Dalai Lama joins past International Freedom Award winners Mikhail Gorbachev, Desmond Tutu, Bono, Nelson Mandela, and Paul Rusesabagina.

Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work!

1.   Don’t put drugs in people’s drinks in order to control their behavior.

2.   When you see someone walking by themselves, leave them alone!

3.   If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault  them!

4.   NEVER open an unlocked door or window uninvited.

5.   If you are in an elevator and someone else gets in, DON’T ASSAULT THEM!

6.   Remember, people go to laundry to do their laundry, do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.

7.   USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If you are not able to stop yourself from assaulting people, ask a friend to stay with you while you are in public.

8.   Always be honest with people! Don’t pretend to be a caring friend in order to gain the trust of someone you want to assault. Consider telling them you plan to assault them. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the other person may take that as a sign that you do not plan to rape them.

9.   Don’t forget: you can’t have sex with someone unless they are awake!

10. Carry a whistle! If you are worried you might assault someone “on accident” you can hand it to the person you are with, so they can blow it if you do.

And, ALWAYS REMEMBER: if you didn’t ask permission and then respect the answer the first time, you are committing a crime- no matter how “into it” others appear to be.

Annnd I’m back again

Well, I’m back on the site and trying to lose weight again.  I’ve been keeping track of my progress on a different site and clicked on my book mark for here by accident.  I think I’d like to come back and post here as well.  I get a bit more support here than the other site.  Fitday.com  is great for keeping track of your progress but not much of a community site.

Well I was 182.6 lbs this morning and when I got home from work I was the same.  That feels pretty good that I didn’t gain any during the day.  (I normally fluctuate about 3 lbs or so through out the day) .  However I just ate a bowl of (canned) chili so who knows what the scale would say now.

I have gotten myself a digital scale since the last time I’ve been on here, so that definitely helps for keeping track of accurate weight loss.  It’s fun to see that I’ve gone past my first weight goal on this site.  By 5 extra lbs actually.   Woo!

I’ve given myself a pretty hard long term goal of reaching the high end of my high school weight range, 145lbs by my 24th birthday.  My birthday is the March 2nd so it works out that I’ll have to lose an average of 1.5lbs a week to meet this goal.  I’m not sure if I’ll actually reach it, but it’s something to strive for and it’s still within a healthy weight loss per week range, high end I know, but we’ll see how things go or if I’ll need to adjust my goal along the way.

Another lb

I made a comment to my mom that I’ve lost some weight and she said she’s noticed the change.  I’ve thinned out a little bit in my face apparently.  Woohoo for someone noticing and changes starting to happen!!!

1 lb, 3 total!

Woohoo!  I lost one pound!  Haha it’s silly to get this excited but 1lb is 1lb.  Besides it’s a step in the right direction.  I’m used to seeing weight stay on or weight stay the same, so to see weight go down is wonderful.

I’ve got work later (where I will reclaim my awesome water bottle) then I have an interview with Aflac, then I’m heading home and to the gym.  I haven’t worked out for about a week now and I’m recovered from my hard work out and I’ll have my sweet ass water bottle with me.  Another hard work out, here I come!

Lacking Motivation

After that first good work out I’ve been lacking the motivation to get back into it.  I think partly because I was so sore after wards and also I left my awesome water bottle at my friends house and drinking out of a regular water bottle just isn’t the same after that one!  Lame I know, but it did rock.

Maybe I need to get in fights with the boy more often.  It felt good to work out my aggression at the gym and then was able to come back home and be civil with him later.

Is not having a good water bottle an excuse for not working out or a legitmate reason b/c I don’t have the proper equipment?

However, on a positive note, I think I lost a few pounds.  I can’t really tell on his scale here b/c it’s an old one with the rotating dial.  I’ll update on wednesday when I can weigh myself on a good scale.

1.5 hours cardio

Well I went to the gym today after a fight with my boyfriend online.  30 min cardio on an elliptical then 3 sets of crunches and then 60 min of cardio after that.  I felt so good to get all that in and pretty impressed with myself that I was able to do so much so soon.

BTW… anyone know an untraceable poisen I could use for a guy who thinks it’s a good idea to call me a sexist?

First work out

I had my first work out at Bally’s this morning.  Phew … and it was rough.  I got a free session with a personal trainer.  I ended up having to sit down for about 10 min or so b/c I pushed myself too hard and got lightheaded and felt sick.  I hate running.

Then at the end he was kinda pushy to have me purchase a personal training package.  While I would like to I just can’t afford paying 70 for a one hour session.  He also didn’t seem to put much effort in the session I was with him, so if I did decide to purchase the package it wouldn’t be with him.  All he really did was show me a few machines and that was it.  I could’ve had someone had me a paper and told me what to do and it would’ve been the same thing.

All in all I’m looking forward to getting started and getting back in shape.  My goal is to be at my goal weight before I go to graduate school in August of 2010.  I gained all my weight over my 4.5 years working on my bachelor degree so I’m hoping that being older and wiser I’ll be able to keep it off (or at least not gain 1lb a month) while in grad school.

I’m thinking about heading back later this evening to do a class but I don’t want to push myself to hard and I’d also like to work myself up a little bit before I try to jump into the things I was doing when I was fit (and younger).

Joined a Gym

Well I joined Bally’s Total Fitness gym yesterday.  They’ve got a special going on where you pay about 30 a month so I figured it was a good deal for a month to month membership.  I’ve got my first workout tomorrow at 10am … a little early for me but I wanna get my but up an moving asap.  What’s awesome is that all the classes are included in the membership.  So I plan on getting back into yoga and spinning again.  When I was at my healthiest weight I was working out, cardio and weights, 5 days a week and doing yoga and spinning a few times a week as well.  So, I’m trying to get back into that.  Wish me luck!
